Horn Book Review

An orphan indentured to the workhouse, Oliver is only ten when he runs away to London to make his fortune--and unwittingly falls in with a gang of thieves. Occasional spot illustrations enhance particularly emotional moments. The adaptation is accessible, but loses the depth of the original. A condescending afterword/sales-pitch is included, and discussion questions are appended. (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
