Library Journal Review

This unique video offers a chance to visit a mosque and witness the soul of an American community. Although it offers an introduction to the basic beliefs and practices that govern Muslims, that is not its primary focus. Personal testimonies open the door to this community and invite you to share the thoughts and dreams of those who know what it is like to be Muslim in America. As one congregant shares, "I am not something strange or exotic. I am your neighbor. I live down the street." The 15-minute feature The Art of the Mosque is an introduction to a mosque's unique areas. It explains Islamic art forms and functions with regard to calligraphy, the crescent, and fountains. The audio and visual quality are solid. This worthwhile purchase is a useful teaching tool for units on religion, architecture, and/or tolerance. Highly recommended for school media centers and all public libraries.-Cheryl Aboudola, Tiverton P.L., RI (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
