Horn Book Review

Through a cupboard (the key to which is 'carefully lost in a crack in the floor') under the stairs, a young girl enters the room where she keeps her witch, Alice Snavely. The two cook up a 'terrifically powerful' brew and use it--'Drip! 'Drop!' POP!'--to spark their nighttime adventures. Strong writing is paired with loose, flowing paintings to evoke a playful, rather than scary, story. From HORN BOOK 1997, (c) Copyright 2010.
