Horn Book Review

Introduction by Sandra Cisneros. In the author's note, Ruiz playfully describes 'dichos', or proverbs, as 'the kisses of language.' The bilingual text features proverbs that are lovely 'kisses' in Spanish but on more than one occasion, are awkward in their English translation, such as 'Experience is the Mama of Science.' The colorful illustrations effectively encapsulate the essence of the proverbs. From HORN BOOK 1995, (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
